Lilly Allen shows off a more sophisticated take on the style combo that made her famous, pairing her twenties style beaded dress with a pair of...white trainers.

Peaches Geldof flaunted her pins in a pair of high waisted shorts and vintage lace-up boots.

La Roux showcased her unique style in a pair of gold hareem pants and a psychedelic print jacket.

Daisy Lowe worked one of the seasons hottest trends in this fringed mini, eclectic as ever, she paired it with pirate boots and a leather satchel.

The guest list for The Royal Academy Summer Party never fails to impress and 2009 was no exception, playing host to some of Britain's most prolific artists and designers and emerging talent. Tracy Emin, Stella McCartney and Yasmin Le Bon were a few of the guests who arrived for a preview of the summer exhibition, but whilst the gallery walls were lined with colour, the night's style story was black and white.

Poppy DeLevigne ensured the envy of her fellow female guests by arriving in the Chanel dress of the season and Agyness Deyn flaunted her fashion credentials in graphic monochrome. Tamsin Egerton looked effortlessly stylish in a white, strapless D&G dress and both Emilia Fox and Ben Grimes proved that a LBD needn't be dull, looking simply stunning in theirs.

Silver Screen: 'Coco Avant Chanel'

Who could forget Chanel No. 5's spellbinding short film starring Nicole Kidman? The modern-day fairytale, directed by Baz Lurhmann, told the story of 'the most beautiful and the most famous woman in the world' who, for one night, escapes the trappings of her glamorous life when she meets 'the only man who didn't know who she was', played by Rodrigo Santoro. The cascading pink gown, the sparkling cityscape, the amorous strains of Debussy's Clair de Lune...every detail of the 180 second ad spelt romance.

And to celebrate Audrey Tautou's role as the new face of the fragrance, the fashion house have created another short film. 'Train de Nuit', directed by Jean Pierre Jeunet, who directed Tautou in Amelie and A Very Long Engagement. You can view the film here.

The short film anticipates Tautou's upcoming portrayal of the legendary designer, Coco Chanel in Coco Avant Chanel, directed by Anne Fontaine. The film, based on the novel L'Irreguliere: Ou, Mon Itineraire Chanel, was conceived with Tautou in mind.

Tautou told France Inter Radio:

Coco Chanel's personality was absolutely extraordinary but beyond her genius and talent she has everything that the heroine of any great novel has.

The film is released in the UK on July, 31 2009. Until then, here's the trailer:

The S/S 09 fascination with the bold and the vibrant was showcased nowhere better than at Alexander McQueen, where models strutted the runway in shattered crystal print shifts in vivid hues of red, yellow, turquoise and blue. The trend for graphic patterns continued at Peter Pilotto, where the designer's signature prints took on a SCI-FI like quality. The colour palette at Miu Miu was more muted: earthy tones created a geological look. Whilst at Narciso Rodriguez, monochrome prints formed a stark contrast against this season's dizzying brights.

The A-list's most fashionable stars were out in force for the Metropolitan Museum's 'Model as Muse' Gala in New York, hosted by Marc Jacobs and Kate Moss. Celebrities including Claudia Schiffer, Anne Hathaway and Helena Christensen dressed up in their finest threads to celebrate the opening of The Costume Institute's annual exhibit at The Metropolitan Art Gallery.

This year's exhibit, entitled 'Model as Muse: Embodying Fashion' draws on the relationship between designer and muse in the last 60 years.

It's no wonder Justin Timberlake looks so proud, girlfriend Jessica Biel stole the show in this gorgeous red gown by Atelier Versace.

The excuse for this cringeworthy fashion blunder? Some are suggesting Rihanna was attempting to make a provocative statement of female empowerment....Well, that's great, but could her stylist not have picked her up those D&G trousers in the right size? Whoever said feminism had to be so ill-fitting?

Gisele Bundchen looks like she misjudged the occasion in this sparkly blue number byVersace...Maybe better suited to a night out on the town than fashion's starriest night of the year?

For someone who - most of the time - exhibits such faultless and understated style, you have to wonder what made Helena Christensen opt for this trashy looking diamante number? Her pink Zac Posen frock is less supermodel, more glamour model...Did she borrow it from Jordan?? Or maybe the producers of Strictly Come Dancing?

Surely, if there was ever an occasion to dress up, this was it? Winona Ryder looks lacklustre in a black dress, black opaques, black shoes and er, black clutch. Who's it by? Marc Jacobs, apparently...although I'd have bet that she whipped it off the rack at Century 21.

Who would have thought that Marchesa could look so bland? For some reason (perhaps that she hasn't changed her hairstyle in the last 5 years) Kate Beckinsale fails to shine in this feathered creation by the fashion duo.

It looks as if Lilly Allen's Chanel obsession has finally paid off...The singer, who celebrated her 24th birthday on Saturday, was handpicked by Chanel's Karl Lagerfield to model in the A/W 2009 Accessories campaign.

Earlier this year it looked as though the self-confessed shopaholic's penchant for designer labels had finally caught up with her when she admitted that she had been hit by the credit crunch and had to sell her car. The price of Lily's wheel's (a £35,000 BMW convertible) could have bought her twenty-seven Chanel 2.55's...One in every shade, perhaps? Modern shades, like Tom Ford's Alexandra are a quick way to update your look, but be wary of splashing the cash, there's no guarantee they'll be anything other than a one-hit-wonder. The selection on the high street is vintage-led this summer, but at Topshop and Next you'll find a range of different styles, none quite like Tom Ford's, though...Now that's a designer collaboration I'd like to see.

If you're really feeling the pinch, head to Primark wear you can pick up a pair for just £1.50. Brightly coloured frames are set to be a big hit this summer. The celeb's have been picking up theirs from upcoming label, Super by RetroSuperFuture. The colour conscious 'Wayfarer-style' frames are handmade in Italy and feature top quality Zeiss lenses. A pair of the much-coveted 'Super Frames' will set you back £85, a modest price compared to other designer brands. The spring/summer 09 shows introduced us to 'trophy' jackets, florals and acid brights, but it's the statement necklace that's proved to be the ultimate fashion must-have this season: From the flamboyant florals at Marni to the more eccentric 'ribcage's at Christian Lacroix, from New York to Milan, designers everywhere showed off creative necklines.

Giambattista Valli is famed for his voluminous frocks, statement heels and a list of clientele that reads like a who's who in fashion, film and music. Victoria Beckham is a fan of his sophisticated shifts, whilst Penelope Cruz, Charlize Theron and Gwyneth Paltrow all know that wearing Valli on the red carpet is guaranteed to land you a spot on best-dressed lists the following day. Valli has acknowledged the importance of dressing celebrities, telling The Independent, 'they are real women, not models. They have real proportions. Some are tall, some art short, some thin, sound roundish.'

What is exceptional about the Italian Designer, is the way he combines his red carpet appeal, with a dynamic and inventive approach to fashion. Perhaps this is because - despite the seeming modernism of his designs - they are inspired by classical skills. Valli's dream to become a fashion designer was inspired by the watercolours of Yves Saint Laurent and this is evidenced in his collections, for - at the core - you will find sleek, tailored trouser suits and classic evening coats. There is an almost architectural quality to his designs, even his cocktail dresses, with their ruffles and feathers are perfectly sculpted to the female figure. Valli designs, not for the fashion critic, or for his fellow designers, he designs for the woman that wears his clothes, as he, himself confessed, 'it's very important that the woman I design for feels that i had a good time making this dress. I like the idea of dressing women for happy moments'.

Catwalk Copycat:

Valli's S/S 09 collection was inspired by sculpted lines...Look out for a jacket or skirt with a strong silhouette.
Try contrasting different shapes to different effects...Valli paired his voluminous tunics with narrow silk cigarette pants.
Draw attention to your neckline - Valli's ruffled collars frame the face, but if you feel that's too flamboyant, you can create a similar effect with a statement necklace, like the one below.
This look is about balance. Avoid too many strong lines - to avoid looking too severe, pin a floral brooch to a sculptural jacket (as above) or pair a voluminous skirt with a ruffled silk blouse.

Etro, Gucci, Valentino...Designers everywhere were seduced by the grandeur and femininity of the Grecian Goddess, this season....And fashion editor's everywhere breathed a sigh of relief...Finally, a look that exudes style and comfort. So if you're shying away from shoulder-pads and turning pale at the though of acid brights, this is the look for you.

On the catwalk gowns were worn loose but - if like me - you weren't blessed with model proportions, cinch in swathes of fabric with a statement belt. Draw inspiration from Julie Christie, Saffron Burrows and Diane Kruger in Troy (2004).

Oasis and Warehouse have the best selection of Grecian-inspired gowns. You're guaranteed to make a style statement in this royal blue number, or combine two trends in one with the red asymmetric design. If you're strapped for cash and it's longevity you're looking for, the classic style of Next's gold jersey drape dress will surpass the seasons.

Barbara Hulanicki for Topshop: Verdict

I had my breath held in anticipation as I tottered through Topshop's doors at 9.45 am this morning (in Primark's fringed boots, love them!)...the day had finally come for style genius Barbara Hulanicki to launch her vintage inspired capsule collection for the high street store.

Perhaps my expectations were too high. What did I expect?...A kaleidoscopic vision of the sixties?...Retro lights? Paul McCartney strumming on his guitar?... Did I picture myself wrestling Marianne Faithful for the the last printed silk scarf??

The reality was, er, less inspired. Where was it? I peered into each corner of the store...'Oh!'...Finally, I noticed a modest (and a little sad) looking stand to my left. I scurried over, frantically (I have no idea why, I had no competition...perhaps Marianne had opted for the flagship branch?) looking for the dress I'd had my eye on in the online preview.

I found it. Well, it didn't look quite the same. I presumed it was chiffon, but it was cotton, the fabric didn't drape, it stuck out awkwardly. Anyway, I grabbed it (along with a tight little blue number) and ran to the changing rooms (I kept up the pace...'the crowds could arrive at any minute', I thought...In retrospect, I'm not sure the manager even knew what it was).

It didn't look good...Actually, that's an understatement, it looked awful. I was falling out of the top half (and trust me, that's a hard feat) and the fabric stuck out at my hips. 'It might have looked OK on Twiggy's skinnier cousin', I thought. I quickly threw it off and tried on the tight little blue number. Not so bad...at all, but I couldn't help feeling that I looked like an extra from The Flintstones Movie (remember that?).

Disaster No. 1

I had another peruse...maybe there was something I had missed? Nothing stood out...a few naive prints and a couple of flimsy looking chiffon skirts....Where was the sparkle? The opulence? The 'Great Gatsby' inspired glamour? Come on Barb, show us the feather boas!

I decided to give up on my sixties dream and went to console myself amidst the handbags...I found a gorgeous quilted number.

Barbara Hulanicki for Topshop...An ode to Biba? Or another way to line Philip Green's pockets?...My bet's on the latter.

Disaster No. 2

British designers came over all patriotic this season, from Vivienne Westwood's trademark Tartan, to Paul Smith's London city prints, the homegrown have been pledging their alliance to Cool Britannia.

Maybe it's the growing popularity of 'buying local' or maybe hard times are bringing out the nationalist in all of us...Either way, we'll be showing off our pride in style.

Agyness Deyn has been in on the trend for a while and proves that, despite living in New York, she's a true Mancunian at heart, by carrying around her quilted Chanel Union Jack number (available from Dover Street Market).

We all need a little 'pick-me-up' right now, and luckily the high street has finally come up with it's own take on the trend, meaning we'll all be flying the flag for Blighty this summer...and what better way to do it than with a gorgeous sequin clutch?

We've only just recovered from the excitement of the launch of Matthew Williamson for H&M last Thursday and now rumour's are doing the rounds that H&M's next designer collaboration will be with Angela Missoni...

In an interview with The Daily Telegraph, the designer said:

"I would like to do something with H&M because I think it is a very powerful way to reach younger girls now."

Surely H&M don't need to her anymore than that?! And with Missoni dresses retailing at around £1,000...here's hoping!

DVF @ New York Fashion Week

There were lashings of leopard print on the catwalks at Fashion Week: from the acid brights at Lanvin, to the glamorous floor-sweeping gowns at Oscar De La Renta.

At DKNY, models strutted the catwalks in body-con dresses in snakeskin and zebra patterns and at Diane Von Furstenburg there were dresses, leggings and waistcoats in exotic animal prints. And who could forget the accessories...there were the 'Tigresse' wedges

at Louboutin, the sexy stiletto boots at Matthew Williamson, the printed pouches at Marc Jacobs and the crystal snake bracelets at Roberto Cavalli.

A bevvy of A-list beauties dazzled in Chanel, at the annual dinner hosted by the fashion house celebrating the Tribeca Film Festival on Friday night. The guests included Robert De Niro, Christy Turlington, Adrien Brody, Debra Messing, Blake Lively and Poppy DeLevigne.

22 year old ballerina-turned-model, Dree Hemingway, stunned in a black Karl Lagerfield creation. The great grand daughter of Ernest, has been applauded by fashion editors everywhere for her relaxed, casual style (think blazers by Zara, bags by Balenciaga and boots by Alexander Wang). And here she's upped the style stakes yet again - showing off her effortless style in classic Chanel.

Mary Kate Olsen wowed onlookers in this stylish Chanel ensemble.

Can she do no wrong? Diane Kruger looked as stylish as ever (and there can't be many who can pull off white hareem pants...) in a Chanel top and Chanel fine jewellery.

The much anticipated 'Matthew Williamson for H&M' capsule collection hit stores yesterday.

The British Designer, famed for his creative use of colour, has dressed the likes of Sienna Miller, Scarlett Johansson, Mischa Barton and Helena Christensen.

The collection for the high street store comprises studded belts, ruffled dresses in bohemian prints, embellished camisoles and ultra-cool jackets, with prices ranging from £14.99 for a printed scarf, to £199.99 for the collection's star item, the multi-coloured maxi dress, featured in the above ad campaign. And each and every item showcases Williamson's immaculate eye for detail: from the hot pink piping on the petrol blue blazer to the zip detailing on the leather jacket.

The designer told Vogue: "I wanted to create a strong urban collection fused with the brands signature symbols and shapes. It's been fascinating to search back through my archives to isolate the most iconic pieces, then rework them for H&M."

"Colour is one of the defining aspects of my signature style. I focused on the iconic peacock motif seen across my collections to develop a palette of blues, chartreuse and emerald. The spirit of the collection is both covetable and precious."

It all started with Take That...then Aggie stomping the streets of London in acid-wash jeans and Doc Martens. Even Beverly Hills is back on our small screens...Now, it's the turn of the crop top to make a comeback.

The nineties-inspired trend was all over the catwalks at Fashion Week and the midriffs of Fashion Editors everywhere were shaking with fear...

Unfortunately, we don't all have the toned abs of SJP...but we needn't start doing our sit ups yet, this trend is as much about layering as it is about flashing the flesh.

Kate Boswoth showed us how, when she stepped out a few weeks back, layering hers over a tee and leggings for a casual, relaxed look.

Diane Kruger was one step ahead when she flaunted her tiny waist in a grey buttoned number last year at Longchamp's 60th Anniversary Celebration.

And Cheryl Cole made the look her own when she attended the Brit Awards Launch Party, proving the look can be glam aswell as grunge.

But if you're really feeling bold, you might be inspired by Daisy Lowe, who showed off her body in a tiny (and transparent!...well, it is a big trend this season) crop, bleached cut-offs and pirate boots at Coachella.

Barbara Hulanicki, the founder of cult sixties and seventies fashion emporium, Biba, will unveil her first capsule collection for Topshop next week.

The 30 piece collection will be available in-store and online and is said to feature floaty chiffon dresses in corals and blues and - Hulanicki's favourite - a suede jacket with shoulder pads.

Last Wednesday night, a flurry of glamourous Manhattanites descended to the ballroom of the Mandarin Oriental, New York for the Fool's Fete, the annual gala held in aid of New Yorker's for Children.

Without a doubt, the award for best dressed went to Diane Kruger, who stunned fellow guests in a pink feathered dress by design duo Marchesa.

Hilary Rhoda looked effortlessly chic in a canary yellow cocktail dress by New York designer, Rachel Roy.

Rachel Zoe, showed off her trademark style in a glamorous navy gown.

And doing it for for the Brits...Poppy Delevigne, in a dazzling white gold number.

Label Lust: Halston

Roy Halston Fenwick, the iconic seventies designer was famed for his draped jersey dresses and ultra suede wrap coats coveted by Jackie O, Bianca Jagger, Elizabeth Taylor, Liza Minelli and a host of other A-list clientele.

His designs. laid-back, yet decadent, earned him a wealth of praise - with Newsweek dubbing him 'The premiere fashion designer of all America'.

After studying in Chicago, Halston moved to New York City, where he became Head Milliner at the American department store, Bergdorf Goodman. It was here that he designed the famous Pillbox hat for Jacqueline Kennedy. She wore the hat during JFK's inauguration and, all of a sudden, Halston was a household name.

But it wasn't until the 1970's, with the launch of his eponymous women's ready to wear line, that the brand truly took off. Halston became the toast of New York society and a regular at the famed nightspot, Studio 54.

His name became synonymous with the excesses of the lifestyle he afforded. His drug use spiraled out of control and was met with a failure to meet deadlines. In 1984 he was sacked from his own company and refused the rights to design and sell clothes under his own name. In 1990, at the age of 57, he died from an aids-related causes.

The brand was revived in September 2008 by Harvey Weinstein, Jimmy Choo's Tamara Mellon and stylist-to-the-stars, Rachel Zoe.

Former Versace Designer, Marco Zanini was named as Creative Chief. Although, despite the success of the first collection, there were rumours of disagreement on the creative board and Zanini was dismissed in July 2008.

With no successor being named, the Spring 2009 collection was created by an unnamed design team.

Despite the brand's worrying lack of direction, the collection didn't fail to impress. Minimalist creations in cascading jersey and billowing chiffon ensured lusty gazes on the faces of fashionista's everywhere...

In case we were in any doubt, Dasha Zhukova, last week, established her reputation as one of the most stylish women around at the opening party for David Lynch and Christian Louboutin's Fetish Photography show in Moscow. Roman Abramovich's other half proved that Rodarte can be worn off the red carpet, dressing down her pink and white creation with a black leather tuxedo jacket and metallic heels.

When most of us were 15 we were working bootcut jeans and tacky tees and had homemade highlights from a bottle of sun-in...But not Taylor Momsen. The Gossip Girl star is fast making a name for herself as one of America's most fashionable up-and-coming stars. This outfit, which she wore to the Topshop Launch Dinner in New York, perfectly showcases her rock chic style. I would have loved to see her with nude lippie, not pink and maybe a beaded clutch to soften the look. But maybe I'm just suffering from boot envy...those Emma Cook for Topshop brother creepers look fab on her.

The Trend: Gladiator Sandals

This is a trend I've shied away from for the last couple of years, but this year I'm unashamedly jumping on the bandwagon. I bought a pair a couple of summers back but didn't really know how to wear them. And I think that's the problem, think about it too much and your look ends up contrived...sure Gwynie shows how you can pair them with a casual pair of jeans and a blazer, but I think Kimberly works them better, she's contrasted them with floaty florals and the two trends balance one another perfectly. And I love how Mary-Kate isn't afraid to let hers make a statement, they dominate her look...and when they look this great, why shouldn't they?

Trend Watch: Boudoir Glamour

The growing popularity of Burlesque has fashioned many an obsession with vintage-inspired lingerie. The seductive underpinnings of Dita Von Teese and Immodesty Blaize have re-ignited a love affair with basques, garter belts and stockings.

But if all that isn't your cup of tea, Topshop and Urban Outfitters have their own take on the trend. What I love about these pieces is their simplicity: they're feminine and understated...they're not about him, they're about you. Think less Bettie Paige, more Grace Kelly. And if someone else should see them, well all the better...

'Mad Men' Fashion: Are you a Betty, a Joan or a Peggy?

Without a doubt, Mad Men is my favourite show on TV right now. I love the sharp script, the Hopper inspired cinematography, but most of all I love the clothes. Janie Bryant is the show's stylist and is responsible for creating each character's covetable look: from Joan Holloway's figure-hugging frocks to Don Draper's slim cut suits.
